Evening!
Back in the States you have all done the Daylight Savings Time shenanigans, which don't exist here in Africa, so the time change has brought you all one hour closer to me; I'm 7 ahead of you now instead of 8.
Tomorrow is the day that a few of my friends and I are going to that nearby hospital to play some worship music for the patients, so please be praying for God's Spirit to guide us and make our music fruitful for His Kingdom, and that He would use us to encourage and win souls there. We have 4 songs picked out and then we plan to end with a request from the audience. I'm rather stoked for this opportunity to use music for God's glory.
The rains wamefika El Doret! On Sunday and Monday we got some rather torrential downpours and lightning storms (which was just awesome -- God is so powerful) and it has been raining more lightly at night with some spectacular shows of lightning in the distance. We seem to have a week or so break from the rains, which will allow us to pour some more concrete likely next week at the church land, but, contrary to my expectations, the rain really solidified the walls of our footings. The dryness of the season had been cracking a lot of the edges, but the rain made things very firm, so praise God for that! Too much rain at this stage would be inconvenient, because now we have concrete at the bottom of all our footings and pillars. I've attached some photos of the recent work, and I'm even in one of them, so that's proof to any of you who doubted whether or not I'm still alive out here! (I think it was just my mom...) The big sort of panoramic views of the trenches I took before we put the first layer of concrete in. You can see our cement mixer, which is the only piece of non-manual equipment available to us; we use 5 gallon buckets to load the mixer, and then shovels to load wheelbarrows that dump the concrete. It's finally levelled off with hand tools, which you can also see in one of the photos. The last one is me building forms for the pillars with Jake earlier today. You can see behind me all the rebar that's being assembled for the footings, columns, and pillars. There are literal tons of it, and still more to be made! Continue to pray for us as we build, for skill and wisdom with each decision.
Kind of a shorter one tonight, but I'll keep you posted soon on how tomorrow goes at the hospital. I'm going to practice some more... G'night
