Kenya Prayer Update #2

Good evening (or morning) all!

Thank you for your prayers for our travel. We arrived in Boston and just barely -- really just barely -- made our flight to Istanbul, Turkey. Check-In and TSA delayed us a good bit, but by God's mercy they were holding the plane for another family that must have had over 20 checked bags. Pastor Josh and his crew took a separate flight to Dubai and sent Jake, my fellow intern, and I ahead of them with all the checked bags for Great Commission Ministries and the church. The other guy who was supposed to join us on the trip was unable to come -- do be praying for him, he's wound himself in a nasty spot. Anywho, after a delay, we set off towards Turkey. From Istanbul we flew to Nairobi, Kenya. We landed around 3:00am Kenya time and then, our driver, David, brought us to a hotel where we slept until morning. I've attached a photo of our landcruiser steed.

From the hotel, we journeyed northwest to Naivasha, where we got to experience a boat tour of Lake Naivasha and Crescent island. We saw much of the local wildlife and even got to get real close to some waterbuck and watch fish eagles hunt (I have some photos). The waterbuck was highly suspicious of my being so close to him in that one photo; he actually began to charge Jake when he went for the same photo.

That was Thursday. Friday (today) we finished the drive up to El Doret and have just recently finished unpacking. We visited the church, Calvary Chapel El Doret and met some new Kenyan friends, one of which, Vinny, is sharing our apartment with us as he serves in the same role Jake and I will be. We have already learned today not to buy the $3 ribeyes at the supermarket... they are $3 for a reason as it happens.

Thank you so much for your prayers thus far -- they have been evident, especially as we drove up from Nairobi the past two days -- all lanes are passing lanes if you want them to be, even and especially oncoming traffic lanes. It is a very different style of driving than what we are used to in America, but we didn't see a single wreck the whole way up.

Keep us in your prayers as we begin work with the church family tomorrow. Please be praying that we would be kept from food poisoning/bacteria/whatnot as we adjust to the culinary climate here. Praise that although we have been tired from travel, we have not been jet lagged and God has supplied us with ample endurance. Pray for Josh's group as they continue their travel. God be with you all, I am so grateful for your support!

Photos --

I've attached some photos of the view at night from our plane as we flew over some area of Northeast Africa, the landcruiser we drove to El Doret, a fish eagle hunting, some waterbuck (the one photo has a very young one I got quite close to), and some neat cacti.
